At               18.7               million,               John               Lackey               is               Boston's               highest               paid               player.

2.

Lackey,               Josh               Beckett,               J.D.

Drew,               and               David               Ortiz               all               make               over               10               million;               while               Paps               and               You               make               a               little               bit               over               nine.
               3.

Jacoby               Ellsbury,               Daniel               Bard,               and               Clay               Buchholz               all               receive               under               half               a               million.
               4.

Jon               Lester               and               Dustin               Pedroia               are               both               paid               only               3.75               million.

Daisuke,               Marco               Scutaro,               and               Mike               Cameron               are               the               others               that               were               not               mentioned               before               that               are               paid               more.
               5.

Out               of               all               the               hitters,               J.D.

Drew               is               paid               the               most.

He               makes               a               whopping               14               million               at               the               clip.

You               would               soon               hope               that               his               .255               batting               clip               goes               up.

At               least               he               has               power               (22               HRs).

None               of               them               are               considered               stars,               however               Ryan               Kalish;               Daniel               Nava;               and               Michael               Bowden               are               good               players.

Miller               makes               1,790,219               which               is               a               close               call               to               a               zero               whilst               Matsuzaka               makes               8,333,333.

Is               that               his               favorite               number?

He               is               30               years               old,               but               his               number               is               18.

He               also               pitched               153.2               innings               in               2010               with               a               1.37               WHIP               and               gave               up               13               home               runs.

He               also               gave               up               137               hits               and               struck               out               133               batters.

If               you               add               up               the               number               of               threes               in               those               mentioned               stats               in               which               there               were               threes               in               the               number,               you               get               six               threes.

    Syble Townsel's blog ::Globe: Sox Planning To Add Andrew Miller To Rotation










                   One               of               the               more               overlooked               pieces               of               the               Boston               Red               Sox               success               during               their               2004               and               2007               World               Series               Championship               seasons               was               the               compatibility               and               success               of               their               bullpen               pieces.

    Keith               Faulk               and               Jonathan               Papelbon               served               as               the               closers               for               those               squads,               but               it               was               often               Mike               Timlin,               Alan               Embree,               and               Hideki               Okajima               who               got               the               crucial               outs               to               setup               these               victories.


                   
                   While               there               are               many               reasons               the               Red               Sox               lacked               success               in               the               2012               season,               it               was               the               back               end               of               their               bullpen               that               so               often               failed               them.

    With               that               in               mind,               let's               take               a               look               at               two               offseason               acquisitions               who               will               look               to               solve               the               late               inning               issues               and               provide               depth               to               the               bullpen.


                   
                   
                   Joel               Hanrahan,               Closer:               To               say               the               Red               Sox               have               been               anxious               to               find               a               replacement               for               Jonathan               Papelbon               would               be               putting               it               lightly.

    After               injuries               derailed               Andrew               Bailey               last               year,               the               Sox               weren't               going               to               sit               around               and               hope               for               a               turnaround.

    Mere               hours               after               the               Hanrahan               trade               became               official,               Red               Sox               GM               Ben               Cherington               announced               that               Hanrahan               was               brought               on               to               serve               as               the               team's               closer.


                   
                   This               acquisition               and               appointment               makes               a               lot               of               sense               for               the               Sox               as               Hanrahan               has               proven               to               be               one               of               the               more               stable               closers               in               the               National               League               over               the               past               two               years,               compiling               a               2.24               ERA,               76               saves,               and               just               over               one               strikeout               per               inning.

    He               compares               favorably               to               the               man               he               is               trying               to               replace               in               Papelbon               with               a               mid/high               90's               fastball               and               a               wipeout               slider               that               will               undoubtedly               translate               to               the               AL               East.


                   
                   The               price               to               acquire               Hanrahan               wasn't               necessarily               all               that               steep               either.

    While               I               was               a               big               supporter               of               acquiring               Sands               from               the               Los               Angeles               Dodgers,               it               was               apparent               that               with               the               ongoing               signing               of               Mike               Napoli               the               Red               Sox               weren't               going               to               commit               to               Sands               anytime               soon.

    Stolmy               Pimentel               was               the               other               major               piece               heading               to               the               Pittsburgh               Pirates               and               while               he               is               still               young               enough               to               develop,               he               was               not               ever               going               to               crack               the               Red               Sox               starting               rotation.


                   
                   
                   Koji               Uehara,               Setup:               Uehara               brings               something               with               him               not               a               lot               of               relievers               can               claim--success               in               the               AL               East.

    Since               he               was               converted               to               the               bullpen               in               2010               by               the               Baltimore               Orioles,               Uehara               has               been               among               the               league               leaders               in               strikeouts               per               nine               innings               (K/9)               averaging               11.46               K/9               over               that               span.

    His               success               isn't               derived               from               power,               as               he               relies               on               an               array               of               pitches               and               the               control               to               locate               them               all.

    Placing               him               in               front               of               Hanrahan               in               the               8th               inning               is               going               to               provide               a               stark               contrast,               as               he               not               only               throws               with               less               velocity,               but               features               a               split               finger               that               drops               vertically               as               opposed               to               the               sweeping               east/west               movement               of               Hanrahan's               slider.

    These               differences               in               pitching               styles               will               help               keep               hitters               off               balance               over               the               course               of               a               series               and               a               season.


                   
                   The               one               true               concern               with               Uehara               is               his               lack               of               success               in               the               postseason.

    He               has               pitches               a               total               of               four               games               in               the               postseason,               all               for               the               Texas               Rangers,               and               has               surrendered               5               runs               in               2.1               innings.

    While               the               sample               size               is               limited,               it               could               be               an               indication               of               fatigue               pitching               over               a               long               season               (Uehara               will               be               38               in               April).

    This               should               be               less               of               a               worry               for               the               Red               Sox,               as               they               have               the               bullpen               depth               between               Andrew               Bailey,               Junichi               Tazawa,               and               Andrew               Miller               to               cover               the               setup               role               on               days               Uehara               doesn't               need               to               pitch.


                   
                   
                   All               told,               these               two               acquisitions               should               prove               their               worth               of               the               course               of               the               2013               season.

    While               improvement               by               the               team               as               a               whole               will               likely               take               more               than               one               season,               Hanrahan               and               Uehara               will               become               plenty               appreciated               at               the               back               end               of               the               Red               Sox               bullpen               this               year.
